Owek. Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister)

Owek. Andrew K. Byakutaga, 53, is the Omuhkirwa (Prime Minister) of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom. Andrew resumed office in January 2018, replacing Owek. Norman Lukumu.

Andrew is a Norwegian-trained petroleum geoscientist and a management specialist.

In his maiden speech, Byakutaga called for unity, hard work and reconciliation.

Mr. Byakutaga pledged to work with every stakeholder in the kingdom to ensure the institution moves forward.

“I want to confirm to you, your Majesty that I will work with all kingdom subjects, government institutions, religious leaders and others to move the kingdom forward. I call for teamwork and where we have wronged each other, let us reconcile, forgive and forget but work as a team to build the institution,” he said.

Byakutaga who described his reign as the new chapter, promised to work hard and rejuvenate the former glory of the kingdom.

He appreciated his predecessor, Norman Lukumu for the work he has rendered to the kingdom since 2015 saying he will build on from his foundation to take the institution to the next level.

Meanwhile, Dr Kabagambe Kalisa, the chairman Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Royal Commission said the commission recommended for the appointment of Byakutaga because of his education status and the love he has for Bunyoro.

“Your majesty, I know your servant will do good work because I once worked with him in the ministry of energy after his University and he was a result oriented worker,” He said.
