HOIMA: The marathon attracted thousands of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom subjects across the kingdom for this year’s commemoration of 29 years of Omukama Dr. Solomon Iguru Gafabusa’s reign as King of Bunyoro.
The marathon was flagged off by the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom queen mother, Omugo Margaret Karunga Adyeeri, at Karuzika Palace in Hoima town on behalf of the Omukama Iguru.
The Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has dedicated the proceeds of this year’s Empango Marathon to Kikuube district Health Center IV in Kikuube district to procure an incubator machine for the babies who get born prematurely.
The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister, Andrew Byakutaaga, commended the Kingdom subjects for turning up in large numbers for the run, saying such activities promote unity for Bunyoro.
He also added that it is a symbol of unity that the people in Bunyoro have shown their kingdom, therefore calling on the kingdom subjects to turn up in big numbers for the forthcoming 29th coronation anniversary on June 11 as they commemorate the day Omukama Iguru ascended to the throne.
The Kikuube district LCV Chairperson, Peter Banura, commended the kingdom for prioritizing the procurement of an incubator machine to save the lives of the children in the district.
He expressed excitement about the donation of this machine to Kikuube Health Center IV, adding that this machine is going to add to their efforts in promoting good health in the district.
Banura noted that Kikuube at least registers 30 premature babies from within the district and the neighboring areas every 2-3 months.
The Bunyoro region NRM mobilize, Michael Ayeranga, commended the Omukama for the Empango Marathon working together with Spice FM, saying that such an activity signifies unity, promotes fitness, and restores Bunyoro Kitara kingdom glory.
He therefore rallied the kingdom’s subjects to always support the event.
Fred Byenkya, who represented the director of Spice FM, the main organizer of the marathon in partnership with the Kingdom, said that the incubator cost 2000 dollars.
He noted that this was the 6th Empango run and commended the Kingdom subjects for supporting the run by buying the kits, which enabled them to raise the money to buy the machine.
