Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi yesterday attended the Annual Abacweezi Clan Re-union at the residence of Mr. Kabagyo Fred in Rukooge cell, Hoima city.
The event brought together hundreds of Bachweezi clan members from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Prime Minister Ateenyi, who is also a mucweezi, expressed his gratitude to the Clan leadership for inviting him as the chief guest.
He commended the Chairman of the Bacwezi clan Mr. George William, and his team for registering the Abacwezi clan with the Kingdom, in line with Rukirabasaija Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I’s directive to register and streamline their operationsa.
During his address, Ateenyi emphasized the importance of education, urging parents to prioritize their children’s education to secure their future and that of their families, clan, and Kingdom.
He also highlighted the Kingdom’s scholarship programs, which support underprivileged students.
The Prime Minister called on parents and clan members to promote morality and respect for authority, citing concerns over increased immorality.
He encouraged the clan to engage in income-generating activities, particularly coffee growing, which the kingdom has identified as a key cash crop for improving household incomes.
He rallied all people to plant indigenous trees to protect the environment and traditional medicine.
The Women MPs for Hoima and Masindi districts, Omucwezi Businge Harriet and Omucwezi Dr. Florence, respectively, urged clan members to initiate income-generating projects and embrace government development programs.
The Chairman of the Abacwezi clan, Mr. Bizibu George William, thanked the Prime Minister for his support and the clan members for their attendance.
He highlighted the significance of annual reunions in fostering unity, networking, and joint ventures.
The chairman also shared the clan’s achievements over the past year and outlined plans for this year.
The prime minister was accompanied by the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Communications Officer Mr. Kyomugisa Frankline and the BKK tourism and production officer Mr. Atuha Moses
