Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom renews MOU with Gulu University

Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) it has been having with Gulu University.

In 2014, the Kingdom entered into an MOU with Gulu University to open up a campus at the Kingdom premises in Hoima town.

The MOU expired two years ago but continuing students continued to access education at the campus.

Since 2014 to-date, 236 students have graduated at Gulu University Hoima campus.

The renewal of the MOU opens a window of 481 students who have applied to join the campus to be admitted.

The Vice chancellor of Gulu University Prof George Openjuru said the MOU is a landmark in the historical relationship between the people of Bunyoro and Acholi. He appreciated the opportunity Gulu University to partner with the Kingdom in providing education to the people.

The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Rt Hon Andrew Byakutaga said the campus provides an opportunity of the King’s subjects to attain knowledge and skills which are crucial in improving the social economic welfare of Bunyoro.

He said the Kingdom will work with Gulu University and other stakeholders in lobbying for the operationalisation of a fully fledged public University in Bunyoro.

He appreciated component of reach at Gulu University and called for other areas of cooperation with BKK.

The Attorney General of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Hon Edgar Agaba, Hon Philip Katahoire, the minister of external relations, Dr Florence Asiimwe, the minister of social services, Haj Bruhan Kyakuhaire, the special assistant for culture witnessed the signing ceremony.

The Gulu University Hoima campus offers the following courses:

Bachelor’s of science in agriculture
Bachelor’s of arts in education
Bachelor’s of science in education
Bachelor’s of arts in public administration
Bachelor’s of business administration
Bachelor’s in information technology
Diploma in computer science.
