Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom is renovating it’s parliament, traditionally known as Orukurato.
The building that hosts the parliament was opened by Omukama Sir Tito Winyi on 12th April 1967.
The building has over time got some defects on the floor, walls lighting, chairs and the water system.
Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in partnership with KCB bank has embarked on a rehabilitation of the parliament to enable it reflect the significance and history of the Kingdom’s policy making organ.
The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has inspected the ongoing works. He was accompanied by the KCB bank Hoima branch manager Monica Aijuka, the assistant branch manager Mugagga Frank and Andrea Kirungi,the Assistant Relationship Manager, Personal Banking.
The Premier Rt Hon Andrew Byakutaga and the KCB bank officials appreciated the work so far done. The water and sewage system has been repaired, the seats, walls and doors have got a facelift.
KCB bank supported the Kingdom with 10 million shillings under Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).
The Prime Minister has promised to reach out to more partners who will support the Kingdom’s development programs and especially the exterior of the Orukurato building, the parking lot and the compound which will be the next phase of this rehabilitation exercise.
The members of the new parliament were sworn in early this month at a colourful function that was presided over by His Royal Majesty Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Omukama of Bunyoro who was accompanied by the queen, Omugo Margret Karunga Adyeeri.
The parliament passes budgets, plans, projects, policies and governance rules of the Kingdom.
