Tanzania’s Karagwe Kingdom Prince comes to seek blessings from Bunyoro-Kitara

Karagwe kingdom caretaker Prince, Daudi Rumanyika is seeking Bunyoro’s blessings ahead of his official enthronement as king of the Northwestern Tanzania Kingdom.

Prince Christian Rweyemamu Rumanyika, son to former King Daudi Rumanyika seeks to inherit his father’s throne.

Rumanyika ruled Karagwe until the 1963 when kingdoms were abolished by the independence government.

As a tradition, the prince had to seek blessings from his Bunyoro grandfathers before his enthronement in Tanzania. Rumanyika belongs to the Banyambo tribe that traces its roots in Bunyoro.

Rumanyika on Friday led a delegation of about 20 people to Omukama’s Karuzika palace in Hoima town. He was blessed by Bunyoro reigning King Solomon Gafabusa Iguru who handed him a drum as an instrument of power.

In his speech read for him by Ballet Kakoko Ruhinda, a member of the delegation, Prince Rumanyika said he had come to be blessed by his great grandfathers and also renew ties with Bunyoro which he described as a prosperous kingdom.

According to the statement by Rumanyika, the date for his official enthronement will be announced soon.

Bunyoro will lead the enthronement rituals in Bwaranyange, the seat of Karagwe kingdom.

On his part Omukama Iguru thanked his visitors for tracing their origin. Iguru said he had long known them as his brothers in Tanzania.

The king added that the visit should mark the beginning for unity and close working relations between the two institutions to harness their culture and resist all forms of neo-colonialism.

During the meeting, elders from both sides shared history regarding the two kingdoms. There was more excitement when the visiting team freely spoke in Kinyambo language, which is similar to Runyoro and introduced themselves by name and clans. Clan mates from both sides hugged and laughed with joy.

It’s not only Prince Rumanyika who has sought blessings from Bunyoro. Last year Prince Gabula Nadiope of Busoga sought blessings from Bunyoro ahead of his official enthronement as King of Busoga. Bunyoro kingdom elders led the enthronement rituals in Busoga.
